you ARE a sailor. My grandfather was a merchant marine in all 3 theaters. I have been collecting his documents. He sailed 7 ships during the war. He crossed the equator on all as his ships went to the Pacific. He sailed the Suez Canal and the Panama. I have some of his letters to my grandma and my mom. Everyone is enjoying the info. Please continue to share yours. Thank you for your service and I wish you great health.

i crossed the equator in august of 1944 aboard the ss william s ladd.Ispent most of the day trying to hid from the shellbacks who were useing water hoses and cutting hair.We had to kiss the queen's xxxx that was a mixture of musterd catsup and hot sause. Even the armed guard officer had to submit to this to. Idid not get a certificate however as our ship was sunk by a kamakazi at leyte PI on december 10 and all records were lost.It was horrible.
