I recently found out that my husband's uncle Edward M. Whelan was on the Oregonian in 1942 when it went down. His rank was S2c, this is all of the information that I have on me. My mother in law doesn't know too much either, since she was younger than him by quite a few years. I was trying to find information and a picture of the Oregonian that was hit and sunk in the Murmansk Run. Can any one help me? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks a bunch.
This Wikipedia entry http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Convoy_PQ-18 is a pretty good account of the the troubles encountered by PQ-18. It refers to the loss of the Oregonian.
