I saw an article that said Ernist Borgnine was a Gunners Mate In the AG. Wonder if any other actors were in the AG

Somewhere deep in this site (Ron can likely tell you where) there's a full-length picture of Borgnine in whites, wearing the rating badge of a GM1. Whether this means he was in the A.G., I don't know. I've seen the name Richard Jaeckel in connection with the A.G., but nothing definitive.

Fran is right, though I had forgotten about Borgnine myself.

On this page (http://www.armed-guard.com/table5.html) is quite an interesting set of photographs: C.A. Lloyd, now President of the Armed Guard Veterans' Association; his brothers Whitson and L.D. (Whitson, also known as Lonnie, died on the BLACK POINT off Rhode Island in May 1945, last ship to be sunk by a German U-boat); our old friend Tom Bowerman ... and Ernest Borgnine, in an AG uniform.

Every now and then, I go through the entire site, Ron, because the pictures of all those young men never fail to remind me of an important chapter in my life. Because my computer skills are severely limited, I often find it difficult to copy and move something out of the A.G. site. Tom was always a great help with this. Not incidentally, speaking of actors who served in the A.G., the page you refer to also contains a photo of a young officer named Tom Ewell, presumably the actor.

Bob: The numeral 6 appears at the end of your post, indicating that half a dozen people have read it even though no one has responded. So it falls to me to assure you that there are still some of us out here who not only read what appears on the AG/MM message board but even put up an occasional word. I would comment more often, except that you and others probably think they see my name here often enough as it is.

Clarence: With the help of the link Ron has supplied (above), I'm sure you can find the Borgnine picture. I know of no article on this subject, although there are many Internet references to Borgnine's Navy service. C.A. Lloyd can probably tell us something about Borgnine and the A.G., as well as others relative to this thread.
