Hello to all. Our weather forecast calls for possible SNOW FLURRIES Monday! Now I realize some of you see much more snow, much earlier, than we do in Indiana, however, I am an old wimp and I get COLD in my old age! On the other hand, I'm so thankful to be alive each and every day that I CAN TAKE IT!!! I remember when we came from the Pacific, through the Canal, and turned North towards New York...it became cold very quickly and we sailed into a really big snow storm! I had on ALL my foul weather gear and still was cold! The salt spray came over the bridge from the bow and it was COLD! The decks iced up a LOT and finally we sailed into New York on 18 December 1945. Several of our crew got leave...I was not one of the fortunate ones. I DID get Liberty along with others and we went into the BIG APPLE and had a beer or two. I don't remember the exact date but we didn't get to go on leave until sometime in very early January. The gunners were kept busy with the weapons and as a Signalman I didn't have a heck of a lot to do. I do recall being on Liberty on Times Square on New Years Eve 1945. There was an unbelieveable crowd and I somehow made it back to my ship just after the New Year came in. Now my wife and I can't even stay awake until midnight!! I suppose that, like spring wound clocks, we are running down and not likely to "run" a lot longer. (Nevertheless, we hope to until the very last tick tock within us)! God Bless all. Roy Brown
