Anniversary

Well, I just noticed the date. It is the 64th anniversary of the date I entered the US Navy!
I know a bunch of you "old" guys entered before I did but I got in three months after my 17th birthday.
I was in Boot Camp at Great Lakes with another guy named Brown(no relation). I was RW Brown and he was WR Brown so you can imagine the screw-ups that took place during the 8 weeks of Boot Camp. And HE was only sixteen years old he said. I suppose he lied like some others to get in.
As I recall we were Company 1276 and I believe we were in the Green Bay area, but I'm not sure.
It would be nice to make contact with anyone who was in that Company at Great Lakes.
Since I have not attended any Armed Guard Reunions I have not made contact with ANYONE I served with in the US Navy at all!
Have all you guys experienced the same about not meeting or having ANY contact with former buddies or shipmates?

Thank you, Mr. Brown, for your service to our country and congratulations on your military anniversary. My dad, John McDonald, was 18 years old when he joined immediately after Pearl Harbor. He attended several reunions, but I believe that he was reuinted with only one of his WWII buddies, Gene Lassiter. They found each other pretty late in life, and the first weekend that they spent time together, they stayed up all night long talking. They were really devoted to one another and fortunately lived in the same state. Unfortuntely for the world, they both died a few years ago. But I believe that heaven is a much better place with them there.
God bless you, and, again, thank you so much for your service to our country. We can never repay you for your sacrifice.

Hello Roy,
Dad entered the Navy 1-28-1943 out of Charlottte NC. He must have gone through Great Lakes just a few months ahead of you. I have a few pictures of him from Great Lakes 1943. From Great Lakes Dad went to Little creek and then to Brooklyn. By the Fall of 1943 he was on the S.S. Richard Alvey on the way to Murmansk. After the war Dad stayed active duty Navy for 20 years. Then 33 more years as a civilian working for the Navy (Uniform warehouse). Just after the war in 1946 Dad got out for a short time to run the Ship Store at the Brooklyn AGC but then went back to active duty. Not sure if anybody was at the Brooklyn AGC in 1946 to remember Dad at the ship store. Dad had a couple buddies until the 1960's but only one buddy he talked to for life.

I was just 17 when I WAS SWORN IN. Boot camp was at Sampson, N.Y. 4wks. Apr.8th 1944. Then to the
Armed Guard School at Camp Shelton 5-16-44. Then
to Brooklyn A. G. Center 6-24-44. Then assigned
to the Alexander Martin 6-26-44. Made two long trips and off 4-24-45. Back to gunnery school for 4wks. and then to Treasure Island and assigned to the Vanderbilt Victory. Was at Iwo Jima when both bombs were dropped. Ship was geared up for an invasion.
I had one shipmate on the Vanderbilt Victory that I stayed in contact with from Pen. Him and his family came to Ca. and spent two wks. with us. Thanks to Tom I have made contact with 2 A.G. shipmates and 1 merchant marine shipmate.
I have talked to people that was on the Alexander Martin before me and after me. Plus the M.M shipmate filled me in on why the A.G gun
crew was taken off the Vanderbilt Victory at Saipan after V.J day. The ship went to Honolulu
where it sat for 6 months until the Navy decided
what to do with it.
