I think Webmaestro Ron is probably right, that the abbreviation should be AGCNOLA -- unless Treasure Island was abbreviated AGCNOCA in reference to NOrthern CAlifornia? Ron, you've forgotten more than the rest of us will ever know. Your call! Clay's family's lore regarding the Pacific is intriguing.
Here's a thought about the lack of ships noted on his record: did he get assigned to one at all? You note above that Leslie wasn't inducted until July 1944. It's not out of the question that, by the time he completed training, the Navy was already transitioning Armed Guard personnel to other duties on USN vessels incl. warships. My grandfather's last AG assignment was completed 10/17/1944, and after the turn of the year he was assigned to a brand-new destroyer that, as it turned out, never saw action. It's possible your father wasn't actually needed for AG service by the time it was all said & done.
