My dad who is 91 was also aboard this ship when it collided with the French aircraft carrier Bearn. He was in Hold #2 of the ship the night of the collision. He was part of Company D18th infantry division. He still has vivid memories of that night at sea and all that transpired. It was only recently that he remembered the name of the ship. Anyone with pictures of the ship before and after it collided with the Bearn I would appreciate emailing me a copy so I could share with my dad.
