My grandfather was a Chief Engineer on board the SS "William CC Claiborne" from May 1944 until end of July 1945. His name was Eilef E. Odegaard. He was born in 1896 and crossed the bar in 1966,in Norway. He was Norwegian born but, according to sources, he got a US citizenship sometime before the beginning of WW2. I have his ssn.
I would be eternally grateful for any information about him and the ships, if possible. My search here in Norway has yielded very little to none.
He also served on a V-4 Tug called "Aransas Pass" from Nov.1942 to May 1944. Of this ship I have found very little, I have puzzled together that they went from Vancouver, Canada to Leyte, Phillipines, towing a barge, the "Flint", according to the crew manifest.
Thank you in advance, please ask if more info is necessary or needed.
