In WWII the former Eastern Steamship sisters Belfast and Camden, later Colonial Navigation Arrow and Comet, both built at Bath Iron Works operated in the Pacific as Arrow (Belfast) and Comet (Camden). Originally they had been Boston to Bangor steamers operating opposite each other. After 2 or 3 decades in that service they went to Colonial Navigation. When the war came they were heavily altered for troop duty and sent to the Pacific. Both survived the war after a number of island invasion duties. The Belfast (Arrow) was lost while being towed to the moth ball fleet, cable break. Camden (Comet) was sold. See John Richardson's book Steamboat Lore of the Penobscot, good pictures.
