A Celebration
Not all of us are permitted
to live beyond the Biblical allotment
of four score and twenty summers,
fewer still reach the landmark ninety.
Yet those of us who went to sea
with that little known arm of the Navy
known as the Armed Guard
can look back on nine full decades.
Most of us have had the good luck
to survive not only the perils of war
but have met the many challenges
that go with living so long.
We get around on canes and crutches,
rarely free of the aches and pains
that go with the years, but we don't
complain; we're glad to be alive.
