Thanks for all the Birthday greetings. You guys are the best. It stirred some memories. 72 years ago today on my 19th birthday, we were 2 days out of Murmansk on our return voyage in Convoy QP-11 and under heavy attack by the Germans. The HMS Edinburgh with 5 tons of gold aboard had been hit by a torpedo the day before and was struggling to stay afloat. Even tho severally wounded she fought hard to survive, but early the next morning the German destroyers found her and hit her amidships with a torpedo that sealed her doom. That was the last major action for the rest of the return voyage. The memory is still very vivid. John Haynes
