My Father was on the J.W McAndrew when it was struck in the Atlantic. He was a replacement troop for the 82nd airborne. He's still around and describes how a Nazi flying boat would land in the harbour in the Azores as a mail plane while they watched from the shore. Many jeers and gestures were exchanged between the plane and troops.They keep very strict control of the troops while in the Azores.
