I have to believe that the ship you have simply as "OLIVER WENDELL" is in fact the Liberty ship "OLIVER WENDELL HOLMES." She was built by the Oregon Shipbuilding Company, Portland, OR. Keel laid 26 March 1942, launched 7 May, completed for service 25 May, 60 days after keel-laying. She was scrapped in 1970. See http://shipbuildinghistory.com/history/shipyards/4emergencylarge/wwtwo/koregon.htm. Also see http://www.mariners-l.co.uk/LibShipsN.html#O and scroll down to see all the Liberty ships with a name beginning "OLIVER..."
There were a number of ships named DELAWARE, including at least one tanker. I have been unable to nail down information on same.
Like you I have been unable to find any trace of a ship named SYSONBY, even at shipbuildinghistory.com, a remarkably comprehensive website. I wonder if there is a misspelling involved here.
Tony, do you have any information about a SYSONBY?
