I may be confusing the document for the battle stars for the bronze star. But I did send off to get dads replacement medals and one was the Bronze star medal in a fancy 4x7'' box with the bronze star ribbon, a very small ribbon and actual ribbon with a large bronze star with a small star embedded in the center, red, with blue strip in the middle and white trim. I looked the medal up on the Internet and it was in fact the bronze star medal. The only medal they didn't have in stock was the victory medal. Of course they said I could get it later by resubmitting but I think I will just purchase it, It seems to be simpler than all the info I had to send in.
Any more info is greatly appreciated. I think dad said he thought the ELIHU THOMPSON had been sunk by torpedo while on leave but the records I found said it was struck by a mine. He could have been confused or was given wrong info in the fog of war. The City of Fort worth as I remember was a small ship and I don't think he was on that one long. I just haven't been able to find it. Your info again is greatly appreciated.( where the bronze stars on the medals awarded for each battle for that ribbon?) I think dad was shell shocked he was always supper restless when there was loud thunder but had little fear of anything else .
very best regards,
Al
