We had no yardarm bliker and I never used one. I had heard of them.
As far as a Radioman sending flashing light messages...it probably would have looked like a "steady light"!
A flashing light message sent at any speed above 10 words per minute was quite fast. (Fast for the receiver)). Almost anyone could SEND fast but receiving is a different story.
I knew some Radiomen could send AND receive by radio at unbelievable speeds.
Flashing light messages were passed from ship to ship quite often; but especially for entire convoy manuevers it had to be by flag hoist and executed as soon as the hoist was pulled down on the Commodore's ship.
Also, messages such as rendezvous and postion signals were sent a s information by flag hoist.
