Roy: I remember it as TBS (for talk between ships), and only marginally effective. In convoys the commodore's orders to all ships were passed largely by flag hoist; those directed to a single ship went by flashing light. There was a time when I was on watch and the flag "easy" went up, ordering a 45-degree turn to starboard. I got the flag up and we made the turn without incident, and then I saw that the commodore was calling us by flashing light. I responded and was told, "Execute easy." I looked up and saw it still snapping in the wind, although it should have been lowered when the command was carrried out. It was my most embarrassing moment as a sometime signalman. -- Fran
