The Liberty Hobart Baker was sunk in Mindoro PI on 12/29/44 with the loss of the Chief Engineer. This sinking was the result of a Kamikaze attack the day before our covoy reached Mindoro. The Baker was apart of the first resupply convoy to Mindoro from Leyte and we followed with the second resupply convoy which included 3 merchant Liberties with one destroyed with all handsand the other badly damaged and abandoned. The Leyte - Mindoro operation was with many merchant ships lost or badly damaged over a relatively short s period of time.
