I wasn't so much asking about the short breaks between ship assignments in the Armed Guard, but more for after the war, for example. In researching my fathers history, I saw that after the war, he was transferred from the Armed Guard to the Personnel Separation Center in Norman, Oklahoma, for about 6 months. I have no idea what he would have been doing on this shore duty, thus my question (he was a signalman). Following this was one year at NATTC Memphis, and 6 months at NATTC Corpus Christi. Again, no idea what duty he would have had on these stations, and nothing in his personnel record, other than mention of being assigned to shore patrol once. After this, back to sea for several years.
Later in his career he had shore duty as an instructor, recruiting office, etc.
So, my question was more generic in terms of what guys were assigned to when they had these extended shore duties.
Thanks,
Rick
