Thanks to all AG shipmates who encouraged me toinvestigate my dad's (R SMyers) AG experiences. I checked with NARA who provided me copies of his DD214. They show he was embarked in the following vessels in 1943/43:
SS Paul Hamilton Haynes
SS Gulf Caribbean
SS Santa Monica
USS APL-11 "New Yorker"*
* Commanding Officer assignment.
I break it dwn as follows: Haynes carried cargo,Caribbean was a tanker, Sta Monica was a troop transport, and APL-11 was a barracks barge with its own ocean-going tug ans the only fully operational ice cream machine in liberation of the Philippines. Dad recalled once that he had supplied USS MISSOURI with the stuff when the Fleet had a rare spare moment to relax.
Best to you all,
Steve
