Re: An Armed Guard Story
In response to queries, I am a retired USN officer whose 32+ year career was spent in the signals ingelligence discipline. My dad (Richard Stoler Myes) was an AG officer in WW2. He had several AG commands, including tanker runs from the Caribbean Sea to the UNK and Iceland. ALCOA POLARIS is one ship I am sure he protected, as well as one of the President (Line) troop ships and tankers whose names I am attempting to learn from the National Archives and Records Administration. Dad died in 2000, a retired Commander in the USNR. My fictional novel, "Ice Road to Hell," centers about an AG-defended merchant ship on the Murmansk Run. The book is dedicated to AG/MM heroes of all wars. It also takes a look at the German oponents and their impact upon the ship in question in the novel. An unrevised version of the tale is finished in manuscript, cover to cover. I am revising that MS now, and extend thanks to all who have assisted or reviewed the work. CAPT Steve Myers, USN (ret.) in PA
