In reply to Roy Brown's query - I wrote the poem and "Dick the Gunner" is my father,Richard Stoler Myers, USNR who has been gone now almost 10 years. SS ALCOA POLARIS was one ship I know he was on; there is perhaps an ESSO "xxx" tanker as well and a couple of other ships whose names I uised to know but have forgotten. The other named people are ghostsof an overactive imagination and 33 years ofNavy service during the ColdWar.Thanks for asking
