AG and MM Board: Request for information

I had a former Armed guard sailor contact me about some information he needs.
He wants to find a shipmate he had in WWII. The guy's name is ANSUL LOMAX and he was from Tennessee. My caller did not know what town or city.
May caller said he and LOMAX were together on the SS George W. Julian for six moths I believe. Then they were assigned to the SS Willot S. Hayes.
(My caller's father died after they had been on the HAYES 3 or 4 days and he went home for the funeral. The JULIAN sailed without my caller and his friend LOMAX sailed with her.
Can anyone "enlighten" me about the ships and/or the man named LOMAX?
My caller's name is James Martin and He now lives in California.
