I recently edited the memoirs of my father-in-law, Joseph Scannell, of his service aboard LST 1000 in both the Atlantic and Pacific theaters, 1944-45, including the Okinawa invasion. He wound up skipper of LST 998. He is originally from Lowell MA. I'm wondering if anyone out there is interested?
