I'll be aboard the BROWN this weekend and will get details for you.
The specific door you ask about (starboard side, boat deck) is wooden, quite thick and heavy, painted gray, right mounted (as you enter from the deck), opening outward. It has a small porthole in a brass frame and an ordinary door knob and key lock. The door has no dogs; it is secured from the inside with a bolt lock. There is a high sill to step over. As far as I know it is the original door; it sure LOOKS old.
All of the doors on the BROWN above the main deck are wooden and of similar appearance as described above except variously right- or left-mounted. All exterior doorways on the ship, regardless of location, open outward (so that water striking a door will close it rather than open it).
As with other recent threads about Liberty ship layouts, keep in mind the possibility of variations and do not assume what one sees on the BROWN is typical of all Liberty ships.
