Department of Veterans Affairs Request for Information

I have a claim from a spouse for burial benefits for her husband but we can not verify his service. The spouse claims he was a Merchant Marine during WWII but has no record of his service with the exception of three photographs of him in uniform. She has little to no knowledge of detail involving his service.

I contacted NARA and Coast Guard but they can not locate a record of his MM service without his "Z" number.

These agencies may be able to identify this veteran by pulling the ship's records that he was assigned.
