The point I was trying to make is that the COLLIER had just been launched and so would not have been outfitted with .50 cal. guns to later be replaced by the 20mms. She sailed with 20mms on her maiden voyage.
What I would like to confirm is that the COLLIER (and other Liberty Ships from the same yard) was constructed with the intent of being armed with .50 cals., but was completed late enough (transitional) that she instead received 20mms. Where would these .50 cal. ammo boxes have been located? What did they look like? Have they been removed from the restored BROWN and O'BRIEN or might I find photos of them?
