I am originally from Richmond, Indiana and attended the Maritime Training School at Sheepshead Bay in Brooklyn, N.Y. at age 16 in 1944. I'm not sure of the dates. We trained on the Mariner or Engineer out of Baltimore for a time before I left for San Francisco to board the SS Josiah Royce in Stockton, CA.
While aboard the Royce we sailed all through the South Pacific, including a stop in convoy at Tacloban, Leyte, Phillipines where we underwent several air raids.
When we returned to the states I had turned 17 and decided to enlist in the Navy where I remaind for 20 years.
That is the best I can give since I have lost all the records over the years and my memory is not as sharp as it once was. Just thought I'd drop a line after seeing your site. I don't know if this is of any interest or not.
I'm sorry
