Thanks for the help. I am just getting started on this and have no idea of areas to look. My dad Hobert Helmintoller jr was on the SS Alaskan when it sank and was on a life boat for eighteen days. My neice worked on this for a while but could not locate anything.
He was on the SS Alaskan (armed guard brooklyn) in 1942.
Thanks so much for the help. My dad is in a nursing home and I would love to find whatever I can before he is gone. I believe he has the only know picture of the SS Alaskan when it was torpeded and shelled. How I do not know. He tried to explain but it wasn't very clear today.
