YMS designates Auxiliary Motor Minesweeper, small yard-class minesweepers. AMS is the same type of craft, apparently just a slight change in terminology. In fact, YMS-45 was the same vessel as AMS-41, which was also known as the USS BARBET. See http://www.history.navy.mil/danfs/b2/barbet-ii.htm. PCE designates Patrol Craft, Escort. PCE-904 was named USS GETTYSBURG; see http://www.history.navy.mil/danfs/g5/gettysburg-ii.htm Mike, give me of your father's name and I'll see what I can find. Ron Carlson, Webmaster
