Re: Need info vessels at Anzio

My uncle, Henry Glenn Creech, served in the Armed Guard in WWII. I recently ran across a small diary he kept that gives the dates his ship was in Anzio, Naples, and Sicily. It also gives dates of torpedo, aircraft, and land-based artillery attacks on his ship. Is there any way to use that info to determine the name of his ship? He never talked a lot about his service, but I remember him telling me that 2 ships he served on were torpedoed and one of his diary entries says something about "we stopped a tin fish." Could that mean his ship was hit, or did they stop it with gunfire? I have the date of that incident, too. He was a boatswain's mate and probably a gunner. I have a cloth PO3 rate insignia that has an "A" inside a diamond, but don't know what the "A" signifies. If anyone can tell me anything about any of this, I'd appreciate it very much.
