It's cold comfort, but those of you who regret waiting too long to question your father should know that this is commonplace. Not a day passes when I don't think of something I'd ask my dad if I could. Along with the late Tom Bowerman, I encourage every aging old sailor to put on paper something of his history. It doesn't matter that it might not interest a publisher, or that an English purist might find fault with the grammar and spelling; what matters is that it's on the record for those who come along after us. They may not show much interest today, but the time will come. Bet on it.
