After leaving the Armed Guard, my father worked on the sea almost all of his life, on oil company supply vessels, tugs boats, and shrimp boats. The sea was my father's passion, but cooking was second on the list. So, he'd picked up many great recipes from cooks and other people whom he worked with. Do any of you Armed Guard Vets remember a dish of very, very large meatballs, made of ground meat and rice lumped together, with a brown gravy? My dad called them porcupines.
