I am looking for anyone who served with my Dad on the Chittenden. She went aground off the coast of New Guinea in March of 1945. My Father's name is Freddie Joe Finney, hew would have been a young mate, barely 17, at the time he shipped out on the second (and final) voyage of the Chittenden. The crew was picked up on an island by the HMS Parrett and brought back to New Guinea (I think).
My Dad remembers the Ship's Captain being Paul Cable; he remembers an Ebert, from Alabama; a Blye, from Texas; Chief Petty Office Schmidt; a guy named "Pee Wee" Dorey (spelling) from South Louisiana; and an AG named Fisher, out of Ohio. If any of you guys are out there please drop me a line. Dad was from Texas and served as Messman on the Chittenden. He will celebrate 81 years on this earth on the 28th of this month and I am trying to surprise him with as much "hard copy" of the memories he has shared with me as I can locate. So, if anyone can help, well, HEEELLLPPP!
Thanks so much. For your attention, time and the service of all your families in WWII and ALL the wars they participated in.
With Best Regards for All,
Cathy Finney McManus
