Hello gentlemen. You have touched on two topics I have become faniliar with.
My son just joined the Navy last week. When we asked the recruiter about the Navy rates we were pointed to this web site.
http://usmilitary.about.com/od/enlistedjob1/a/navyjobs.htm It explains all the current Navy rates. Yes, Quartermaster and Storekeeper are still there.
As to storekeeper, the entire Navy Resale System worldwide oday was born as the Navy Resale System Headquarters Office in Brooklyn 1946 (3rd ave and 29 st). When Dad ended his duty as an Armed Guard in 1946 he became one of the original members that started the NRSO in Brooklyn. Dad is listed as a NRSO Plankowner.
After less than a year Dad returned to regular Navy and finished 20 years active duty. Then again he returned to 3rd ave and 29 st Brooklyn to work in the Naval Uniform Shop where he worked for another 33 years.
