I didn't realize that the Signalman AND Radioman rates were discontinued, Fran. How about the Quartermaster rate? Or do they still have Storekeepers?
I suppose if we DO get called up again we'll have to learn all that stuff!
I still try to keep up with some of it through various publications. It is sort of difficult to adjust to the peacetime perks they all have. And I personally cannot get used to having women aboard ships. I still think they have been the cause of many, many BIG problems in the Navy, (most of which we never hear about)!
In spite of everything I do think we have a very powerful and great Navy. And the Marines and Army appear to be as fine as any I've seen at any time.
I'm thankful we still have MEMORIES to enjoy as we age. Some of my friends, unfortunately, have "faded away" in that horrible thing called Alzheimer's disease.
