Hello
I lost my father at a young age before I could hear all his sea stories. I found his record of separation recently as well as his "Shellback" initiation certificate. The ceremony was on the SS Clovis Victory, dated September 10th, 1944. I know also that he arrived at GuadalCanal on 1 September, 1944. His name was Clinton Gawain Walker and was a 20MM gunner. He also served on the USS Crux (AK-115), and the SS Simon Benson. He also has the USS Alvin C. Cockrell (DE-366) listed but as I remember he did not talk about it that much. I do not know when he served on the last two, but he was discharged in 1946. Would anyone happen to have any knowledge of my father or know of any way I could research this further? I would surely appreciate it!I have some pictures that I could scan if that would help in any way.
