:This happened to my 88 2.5 scared the shit out of me but turned out the guy that was doing my shocks jacked the car up by the floor pan and bent it up a few belts on the floor pan at the base of the pedal with a lump hammer sorted it out but now i have the same problem with the clutch pedal but its nothing to do with the floor pan so i am stumped but this might help u
