starting problem

Last summer I had my timing belt and water pump replaced. The 1987 944 started and ran fine all year. One day I started the car it ran a funny like it was missing a little then it died and havent been able to get it going since. It was low of fuel so I put 5 gal. In and still wont start. I have spark to the plugs and fuel going to the fuel injection rail. The DME fuse tested good. The auto manual doesnt give a good guide on how to trouble shoot this problem. Any help appreciate.
