Posted by Ole on 11/1/2005, 1:27 am, in reply to "22 yr ols amazon" You say the bird has been sold because the owner was afraid of him after getting to hormonal stage, AND SADLY that's not in 99 percent of the cases the birds fault, but the owners fault when reacting to unwanted behaviour, again birds do not understand punishment! Uwanted behaviour, also bites, must be ignored, but preferrably avoided, eg situations the bird is biting, avoid those situations and learn to read the body language. In general speaking, your bird is agresive most likely because he is afraid, you must find out why and when he bites and avoid being bitten. Imagine the bird have been hormonal and the recent owner(s) have been bitten and then yelled (fun for the bird) or slapped him (tears down trust, and the birds quit biting for the moment perhaps, but don't understand punishment and will bite again, how many have experienced a bird quitted biting when being slapped at the beak? etc) In your case I need more info and a longer dialog must be established to get both you and the bird better. In my link you'll find my e-mail. The site is partly norwegian. --Previous Message-- Link: http://www.webpaulsen.tk

There is a training program that really works. It's sadly not translated to english, but I have plans to do it, when this is the ONE thing to do in taming, building trust, activiating the bird, correct behaviour problems etc etc.
: I have 22 yr old yna,very,very
: aggressive. I have had him now for a
: year. I did some research on his
: history. he was a very much loved
: pet for the first few years of his
: life, but when he became hormonal the
: owners became afraid of him and sold
: him. he stayed in this home a very
: short while and was then sold to a
: breeder. He was there until the
: breeder went out of business and i
: now have him. he does now allow me
: to give him head scritches thru the
: bars of his cage (a BIG
: accomplishment ).When I have tried
: to handle him he has nailed me good
: on several occasions and refuses to
: be handled. I bought gloves to
: attempt to handle him but they
: appear to frighten him even more.
: this guy has gotten to my heart
: for some reason. He talks up a storm,
: and greets me with more joy and
: happy sounds than any of my others
: do. i know he really wants to trust
: me, i can see it in his eyes, but he
: will get scared. i use a stick to
: get him out of his cage, all he
: wants to do is go to my Blue crown
: conures cage and stay on top of it
: clucking away with the conure.
: i am about to wits end with this
: guy. i feel like there is something
: i am not doing that I should be. Any
: suggestions will be appreciated .
