My name is Heather, an avid bird owner. After a recent trip to my local flea market I came across a bird breeder who sadly had a double yellow headed amazon who is only a year old but, he was kept in a cage untouched for 6 mo by a previous owner and is now aggressive. I felt very sad for this bird and felt compiled to buy him to give him the love and care he deserves and needs. I made arrangements to make payments on him but sense I have been doing a lot of research on these amazons and am wondering what my chances are of gaining his trust and making him apart of our family. Can anyone give me any in site on what I'm up against with this breed? I have a Mexican redhead amazon but she is very tame and loving! I have worked a lot hands on with amazons and other breeds. But never one that has not been handled. I have been bit many times so I am not fearful and know I will be bit. But just need as much info on what to expect with this breed.
