Tiki had "his" well visit with the vet today. He weighs 305g or close to 1 pound. Wow what a meal! Just kidding. We were with the vet for about 45 minutes. I didn't feel rushed at all. What a wonderful visit. She checked his poop... the big one that hit the floor. She listened to his heart. Trimmed his wings and used a grinder on his toe nails. We got to see the bird oxygen mask. The entire visit was wonderful. I really liked the vet. I will definately feel comfortable taking Tiki there in case of an emergency. I would recommend everyone with a bird find a great vet before you need one. We would have had Tiki checked for gender but that was a $95.00 fee. Too much right now for something that doesn't really seem all that important.

: Hi! It's very smart to have pointed
: out a good vet in case of emergency.
: It should be a vet specialiced in
: birds, eg here in Norway it is no
: good going to a ordinary vet, they
: know nothing. A good/pro vet will
: give a little anastethic through and
: air mask specialy designed for
: birds, the first you should notice
: if this equpment is aviable. (when
: nessecery of course) This anasthetic
: should not be used to often when
: there's always a risk, and growing
: bigger more often used. A good vet
: will have focus on not stressing the
: bird. Probably he will handle the
: bird with a towel actually. A bird
: vet often looks at the fecal first,
: many things can be told from there
: through a scope and/or lab tests.
: Also from the "digestive
: device" (hehe, don't know the
: english word) he should be able
: sampling and of course x-ray. If
: necessary he will suggest neb
: coorection as well if overgrowing
: (wood to chew on is important)
:
: Warning signs : loose fecal,
: sluggish eyes and very passive
: behaviour; sitting in one place,
: breathing heavily perhaps combined
: with tail-tipping when perching.
: Coughing much/or with fluid from
: nose/eyes. And of course the more
: orthopedic with wing fracture,
: commotio etc

: I have a few questions. I am taking
: my OW for his first well visit in a
: week. I figured I should meet the
: vet before I need her. I was
: wondering if there is anything I
: should ask the vet to look for or
: things I should look for? Has
: anyone else taken there amazon for a
: well visit? It just seemed like a
: good idea because if I don't like
: the vet and the way she interacts
: with my bird I will find another vet
: before I need one.
: Thanks,
: Dana : )
