Posted by Ole Hi, folks! TARGET TRAINING: When he is confedent with touching you for praise, the demand can be higher with you opening the door and put the whole hand int the cage. A touch when there is, "click" and treat. When this operation is working for you, add the command "up". a walk up on the hand is a new "jacpot" (click, praise and a lot of snack) Whwen it is staring to go up on your hand, don't take him out of the cage, give him treat inside cage, standing on your hand. Afterwards he can be lifted bearly outside, give treat, and put immediatly BACK! The cage IS, and ALWAYS will be his safe place! When this is working you might put him on top of cage, (following the click and treat method) And expand to longer trips away from cage, very short in the beginning. Remember if something goes wrong and the parrot feels very frightened and unsafe, the training will be set back many levels, and you must schedule time for getting the bird feeling safe. Maybe you must back to touching the beak again! Never use the click, when not training. This click is isolating a good behaviour in a split-second followed by a treat, ALWAYS! Not to be abused. This was some of the tactical target training. Feel free to ask questions, comments etc. Ole, yellow naped and a blue fronted a rehabilite right now with this method. (I have used 8 months on this bird, and now he can sit on shoulder and watch TV :))

I wrote this earlier, your bird is not a problem bird, but the procedure is the same bonding a new bird. You should be able to pick up some hints here.
Carol has asked me about help with her 9 months old Blue fronted amazon. I will publish this here, when it might be useful for others on the board. I will go through this only briefly, detail questions from you might be necessary to enlighten and understand more of this method.
Carol has a 9 moBF. The bird let her touch the beak and it takes snack from her hand. A very good starting point! First of all. She describes some wild flying around the house and cathing with towel. This sets the trust between bird and owner many levels back. Be patient and avoid this! The cage is safe spot and training starts here.
This is used to establish positive connection between bird and owner. Find a snack (which doesn't take so long time to consume) the bird loves. Use this only for training purposes! Before the snack is given, it's important to isolate a good behaviour in a split second! A dog-clicker is good for this! (a device you push and it says click) A special selected word (only used for training) might be used, but it's not so effective when we humans might have problems saying the word over and over again in same tone.
When the bird is in the cage, stick the fingers between the bars, talk and lure it, if he goes closer this must be rewarded! "click" and in 1 till 2 seconds a deliscius treat is offered. Do this for a while (for days) the "jackpot" here is if he comes to up to your fingers and touch with his beak. (free will, no force and TRUST) When this happens a "jackpot" has occured, and this is followed by "click" a lot of praise and several snacks. Now the demand is higher, the bird must touch his beak on the finger to get snack, rewarded with "click" and a snack. If he doesn't achieve the goal that has been set, ignore him! Walk away, and don't give him something or talk to him for a while. The best way to "punish" a bird is ignoring (also when agressive and biting) A parrot wants to achieve a reaction in all things he does, and this is positive for the bird ( high yealling, changed facial expression etc.) e.g IGNORE!
