Posted by Dave J The class is limited to 12 students and one must be at least 16 to attend. As of this time, 6 people has told me they want to join, so if any members know of people who want to learn to sail, have them contact me. If the class has opening in April, an ad will go into the Anchorage Daily News. Typically, within 24 hours of the ad, the class is full. There will be many opportunities for members to help out, such as helping launch the 6 class boats, help teach students how to rig up the boats, be a guest lecturer and deminstrate how to launch a boat & pull a boat. Show how and where we store all the gear, talk to the many visitors during the open house (yes, the open house will be the Saturday of the class), help people learn to sail or just join in the Saturday evening race. The great teaching duo of Cathy & Geoff will be impacted by the birth of their third child (3 is a perfect number) and Cathy may be slightly distracted, so Geoff may be looken for some help both on the water and in the classroom. We'll figure this out as the time gets near. This will be the 5th year since the rebirth of our sailing class and each has been better than the last, and hopefully more fun for all. This year should be no different. Oh ya, the class is free, yes free! The catch is that one must become a member of the Alaska Sailing Club and pay the $50 boat fee. The cost of a student will be $300 and a family (provides 2 spots in the class) for $400, this price includes unlimited use all summer long of the 6 two person club boats. This does not include use of the 24 footer, that boat requires more sailing skill that one can acquire in our two day course.

This year's sailing class will be held on the weekend of June 10-11th or June 17-18th, the final date will be determined around April.
We will again have a pool session prior to the weekend class (Barlett High pool) in which the students will learn to upright a capsized boat (that session was a huge success last year). Last year's class was great and this year's will be just as good.
