The psi depends on what brand ink you are using. I use Reel Creations inks and spray at around 8-10 psi. Some brands are thicker and may need a bit higher psi. I would not advise to spray above 15-18 psi since at this pressure it gets uncomfortable on the skin. If your inks are not spraying under 18 psi, I would suggest that you thin them. Again it would depend on the manufacturer as to what you would use for thinning. For most alcohol based tattoo inks you would use 91% or higher isopropyl alcohol.
Also if you spray at higher psi, your inks can dry on the needle and create blockage.
