As I didn't spend any time volunteering in California I won't comment on the projects beyond, they didn't seem as varied nor as physically demanding (heavy lifting etc.). However as I said, I never took part in any of these projects, so cannot say for sure.
What I can say is that because the California base is less well known (or it was whilst I was with ACE) there is a much reduced volunteer base in comparison to Flagstaff.
You could always volunteer at Arizona, and see if you want to transfer part way through? If Chris/Mat etc are happy for you to do so, obviously
