If I was you, I would just do Arizona. I know California is a dream and all, but from experiences, and the jobs you do in California, Arizona is way better.
California mainly does revegetation work. Like pulling weeds, weedwacking, borin stuff.
Arizona has trail work, grand canyon, zion, bryce, etc.
You won't die, unless you don't prepare and listen.
And everything will be covered on your first/second day arriving in Flagstaff. So don't worry, Chris Baker and everyone else will take care of you.
