Actually, I hope that almost every American who comes into the program can be inspired to make a career of it. That's exactly what I did 11 years ago and haven't regretted it for a moment. The vast majority of volunteers will enjoy the experience, leave with some skills, an enhanced resume, and great memories, but a few will indeed become career staff with ACE or other corps around the country. Yeah, there are more lucrative jobs, but most probably don't take you to the places that ACE does or give you the change to meet the range of people. As far as reimbursement, we are heavy on benefits for permanent staff, including full health, dental, and full vision. The bottom line is that ACE is growing which keeps creating new opportunities for people who really invest themselves in the program. So see how you like it and how it likes you, and keep thinking in that direction. - chris
