Hey,
I wish I could say that was an April Fools joke about the pens. In reality, I am infamous for losing all my pens and stealing others, so a former staff member a couple years ago came up with the brilliant idea of collecting pens from foreign volunteers. It's fun to glance at my pen and see that it's from a bus line in Latvia or a post office in Spain. I actually thought we had taken that mention of pens out of the letters.
Off days are limited only by our energy level and sense of adventure. Most people rent cars and travel, some pretty darn far to cities like SF or LA. Others hike, camp, and explore in the many beautiful areas around Northern AZ and Southern Utah. I recommend the latter.
