About the bus to Santa Cruz. You could theoretically take the Greyhound, but it's never fun. The odds of ending up with some drunken bum drooling on your shoulder are way too high. Better to just rent a car. There are usually a few people going to Santa Cruz from Flagstaff so they can get together and rent one way. The perfect scenario is when there are a few people going from Santa Cruz to Flagstaff that same weekend. You can rent a car in Flagstaff, drive to Santa Cruz, give it to the volunteers coming to Arizona, and they can drive to Flagstaff to deliver the car where it started. Doing it that way can be very cheap but requires some coordination. If you don't know who is coming from Flagstaff to Santa Cruz and Santa Cruz to Flagstaff, you can't arrange it. Kazuko can give you those lists if you ask.
