Hey,
This will be the first ACE Danish ACE reunion party that I've missed. Every other year I head to Europe for recruitment but this year the dollar is weak, we're busy on home turf, and we have a lot of great programs already recruiting for us so I just couldn't justify the trip. It feels very odd not to be at one of Rune's gatherings. There's another that stayed 11 months, and then came back, and then came back again. Rune's sort of an ACE original.
Anyway, about your question concerning American versus European representation in ACE: In total over the three and a half years that ACE has existed 6 percent of our volunteers have been American. That statistic is courtesy of Jason, who I believe was our first American volunteer ever and is still with us as a staff member. Another interesting statistic is that as of January 16 ACE will be 33 percent American and we hope to stay in the 20 - 40 percent range throughout the year. I'm not sure if that is realistic since foreigners line up to join in the summer but if we keep getting the word out among Americans I'm sure we'll keep the ball rolling.
I'm not really sure why we've historically had so few Americans. The most likely reason is that we just didn't advertise well. Jason has been tasked with increasing our numbers of Americans and as a result our numbers have increased. A couple ads, a better google presence, the popularity of the ACE sites on Facebook, and Jason's efforts have all contributed to our recent influx.
So Kaitlyn, tell your friends. There's plenty of space for more Americans.
I hope the reunion was fun, Dani.
take care,
-chris
